Oil Filter & Absorbents Recycling
Starting January 1, 2011, the Marathon County Landfill will be offering a new recycling opportunity for residents. They will be adding oil filters and absorbents to their list of acceptable recyclable items. This new service comes in response to a new state law,
2009 Wisconsin Act 86, that bans used automotive engine oil filters and oil-absorbent materials (i.e., paper toweling, rags, granular kitty litter-type absorbents, etc.) from Wisconsin landfills as of January 1, 2011. No individual or group is exempt. The ban applies to everyone in the state including individuals, farmers, businesses, commercial, or industrial facilities and other organizations. This includes oil filters from snowmobiles, ATVs, motorcycles, and tractors as well as cars and trucks.
For more information on the ban, please visit the
DNR website on this topic. The landfill is located at R18500 East Highway 29 in Ringle. For more information or recycling questions, please call their info hotline at 877-270-3989.
