The Village receives numerous inquiries about street conditions during the snow season. Something to be aware of is that during these days of extremely cold weather salt is not effective when pavement is below 20 degrees in temperature. So, during these very cold days, you will not see the Village applying salt.
Even when temperatures may warm to above 20 degrees in the daytime, the use of salt will be minimal if nighttime temperatures are expected to drop again. It is during these conditions that black ice can form if the snow melts during the day and refreezes at night.
The Public Works and Utilities Department includes information on “Snow and Ice Removal” on the Village’s website at the below link.
