Code Enforcement

Partnership with Newly Formed Mountain Bay Metro Police Department (MBMPD) Municipal Codes are a collection of laws passed by a local governing body. The Village of Weston Municipal Code is a collection of 29 Chapters organized under specific topics in various areas such as animals, nuisances, street access control, and zoning. Each chapter has a particular focus area, for example the Zoning Code regulates development, and the Property Maintenance Code under Nuisances ensures that properties are maintained in a safe, healthy, and aesthetically pleasing way. Although Weston does have requirements specific to the Village of Weston, many of the codes and ordinances are similar to those used widely throughout the State of Wisconsin. The Weston Municipal Code can be found at the bottom of the landing page at westonwi.gov.

How do we ensure that these agreed upon principles are followed? This is where code enforcement comes in. There is not a dedicated Code Enforcement Division within the Village of Weston. It is a team effort primarily handled through the Planning and Development Department in partnership with law enforcement, now the newly formed Mountain Bay Metro Police Department (MBMPD). The best way to resolve a code violation is through a calm, direct one-on-one conversation with your neighbor. If this does not bring resolution, reports of violations can be submitted online at westonwi.gov/ecomplaints. When submitting a report, you will be asked to provide your information and details about the observed violation. When a complaint is received, an inspection occurs to verify if a violation exists. If a violation is identified, a letter is mailed to the property owner that outlines the violation and provides a timeline for compliance.

Through this educational process, most violations are resolved. In a few instances, the cases are referred to MBMPD for further education and citation and/or court proceedings when necessary. Many of the more extensive violations involve complex situations that may involve mental health concerns or complicated family dynamics. The MBMPD has excellent officers on staff that are well trained in addressing these issues. If you have questions about the Municipal Code or about enforcement of the code, please contact enforcement@westonwi.gov or 715-241-2613. We look forward to assisting you!
