Operator's License Renewal Application

Overview

To qualify for an operator's license, you must

  • be at least 18 years old,
  • meet criminal record requirements, and
  • have completed a responsible beverage server course. Please visit the Responsible Beverage Training page with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.

The last requirement can be waived if it is a renewal application or if you held a Wisconsin alcohol beverage license, including an operator's license, within the past two years. The municipality may issue you a provisional operator's license if you are enrolled in a responsible beverage server course when you apply. An operator's license is only good in the municipality that issues it. For instance, if you are issued an operator's license in Wausau, you may not use it in Weston.

  • Operator's License Renewal - $40.00
  • Provisional License - $15
  • Temporary Operator's License - $10.00

**NEW** Statewide Operator's Permit Gives Bartenders Opportunities
Beginning January 1, 2025, a new law will take effect in Wisconsin introducing a Statewide Operator’s Permit, providing a streamlined option for individuals serving alcohol beverages across multiple municipalities.

What is the Statewide Operator’s Permit?
The Statewide Operator’s Permit offers a new alternative to traditional operator’s licenses, often referred to as “bartender’s licenses.” Unlike municipal operator’s licenses, which are valid only within the issuing municipality, the Statewide Operator’s Permit is valid at a licensed or permitted premises anywhere in Wisconsin.
