Three Weston Spring Clean-Up Events Next Week - May 14th – 17th!

#1. Community (Paper) Shred Day Event, held behind the Weston Municipal Center, Wednesday, May 14th, 3pm – 6pm; open to the general public. This event offers a safe way to dispose of your old paper files that you may not feel comfortable putting into your recycling cart (for example – bank statements, tax documents, medical records, etc.).

#2. Village and Town of Weston Spring Bulk-Item Drop-Off Event, held at Waste Management, 5509 Fuller Street, on the following dates:

  • Thursday, May 15th, 8am – 4pm
  • Friday, May 16th, 8am – 4pm
  • Saturday, May 17th, 8am – 2pm

During this event, eligible Village and Town of Weston residents can deliver to Waste Management their unwanted non-metal items, furniture, carpeting, scrap lumber, mattresses, glass windows, etc., free of charge!

Not sure if you are eligible? If you look up the tax bill for your property, on Marathon County Land Records, you will see an itemized line for the refuse/recycling services you pay into. Waste Management staff will be checking for proof of address.

#3. Village and Town of Weston Electronics Recycling Event, held behind the Weston Municipal Center, Saturday, May 17th, noon – 5pm; only open any Village and Town of Weston Residents. The Village is working with a new electronics collection company, COM2. Through their contracts with WI manufacturers, they are able to offer this FREE electronics recycling event (which includes things like tv’s!).

There is a small list of items that they will not accept as part of this program, which include things like large household appliances, fluorescent bults, batteries, etc.

More detailed information on these three events can be found on the Village’s website: https://westonwi.gov/151/Refuse-Recycling.

Police Week

Sunday, May 11, 2025 - Saturday, May 17, 2025
In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week.

dine for a cause

Momentum continues to build for the Friends of Kennedy Park project, thanks to our community's generosity. A $500,000 gift from the Rajek family was recently pledged to the Village and dedicated to Field #4 in honor of Gary and Karen Rajek. Both were deeply rooted in Weston’s civic and business life—Gary through his leadership at Merrill Iron & Steel, and Karen as a devoted community volunteer and second-generation owner at Merrill Steel. Their daughter, Katie, and her family remain strong supporters of youth sports throughout the D.C. Everest area. The field is proposed to be named “The Karen and Gary Rajek Memorial Field”—a lasting tribute to their belief in community, teamwork, and creating places for kids and families to thrive.

Request for Proposal for Residential Refuse and Recycling Services

The Village of Weston is issuing a Request for Proposal (RFP) for interested licensed haulers of solid waste and recyclables to submit proposals for a 5, 7, or 10-year residential curbside refuse and recycling services and supplemental services for the Village and Town of Weston. Please click here for a copy of the entire RFP. The Village and Town are currently serviced jointly with weekly residential curbside refuse and bi-weekly single-stream recycling cart services. The current contract will expire on December 31, 2025. The Village of Weston is seeking bids for a contract for curbside refuse and single-stream recycling collection. While refuse collection will remain at weekly, the Village is interested in receiving the proposed cost differences for bi-weekly and weekly single-stream recycling curbside collection.

PROPOSAL DEADLINE:  2:00 p.m. CST, Tuesday, May 20, 2025

Public Works Report

Updates for current roadway projects:

Schofield Ave (Normandy St to Birch St):
- Week of 5/5: The contractor will continue with pavement removals in the westbound lanes (north side of medians). Water valves between Normandy St and Alderson St will continue to be replaced during this week as well with some spot water shut offs along the corridor.

-  Week of 5/12: If pavement removals have not been completed yet, those will continue along with any additional water valve and main work. Additionally, sanitary sewer cleaning in preparation for lining will be taking place.

Weston Ave (CR-X to Ryan St):
- Week of 5/5: Sanitary sewer installation will continue moving east as the crew is about 200-ft west of Heeren St at the end of this past week. They are planning to get through the Heeren intersection and then watermain installation possibly could start at Von Kanel and then head east towards Heeren St later in the week.

-  Week of 5/12: Depending on progress of sanitary and water installation the week of 5/5, watermain installation is likely to continue with then storm sewer work at the Von Kanel intersection getting underway to get that intersection completed.

Weekly updates on roadway projects are released every Friday on Facebook.
